Some embossing folders are better than others for the best results. In each of these examples. The left hand embossed strip is coloured on the front and the right hand strip shows the reverse side.
I then used a sanding block to gently remove the colour from the surface of the vellum.
Regular card stock does not work for this technique because the ink would soak into it making it impossible to remove the colour.
Least effective was the Country Floral Dynamic Textured Impressions embossing folder, the uneven surface made it difficult to sand off the colour. Swirls and Curls Dynamic Textured Impressions embossing folder gave a better result. Even without the sanding, the reverse side looks good too as dry embossing makes the vellum white.
My favorite was the Quilt Top textured impressions embossing folder as seen in the card example on the bottom left. I love the texture it gives.
I coloured both sides of the vellum with Lovely Lipstick to ensure a good deep colour and fully attached it to a Lovely Lipstick mat. The Rectangular Stitched Framelits are great for creating frames and the sentiment panel uses the Floral Frames Bundle.
Poppy Parade was used to colour both sides of the vellum for the card on the right.
It was embossed with the Tufted Dynamic Textured Impressions embossing folder and as with the other examples, I gently sanded the colour off the raised areas.The vellum is adhered to a Whisper White mat at the top under the DSP panel using the floral and geometric design from the Painted Harvest DSP. The sentiments and die are from the Wonderful Romance Bundle.

I really like the second card and love that you give examples of both positive and negative results, it makes me a lot more confident to give new things a try knowing that even pro's aren't always happy with their end product.
